Catholic University, Argentina, UCA 2001 - 2010 Works Art experience reveals that man may achieve deep and unsuspected ways of unity, and in this way we reach to the higher of these forms: encounter. As a being, man is also an encounter. He grows and flourishes interacting with his environment by creating fertile but also demanding bonds. Enthusiasm and shelter are needed; generosity and loving feelings towards higher forms of unity are required as well. These kind-hearted attitudes only grow with respect and reverential acceptance of the values and possibilities that our world offers. Textile art give us extraordinary lessons in wisdom. Many of them come from the observation that with this technique, by using immensely simple instruments, very complex works can be accomplished. The Knitter’s job gives us a good example of a well achieved task and besides being a source of satisfaction and personal fulfilment it also becomes richer because it is done with others. This wise complementarity way to work tells about its consciousness and usefulness. It is Impossible not to consider Alejandra Mettler’s projects of great value. As a singular artist creator of truly encountered situations, her work points to strengthen community activities. Her performances call together children, teenagers and adults, and encourage elder people to convey their wisdom to new generations. This artist activity started in 2001. By that time, when dishearten feelings went through the Argentinian society, Alejandra Mettler began the commendable act of knitting blankets. They were blue: as the Holy Virgin’s cape, blue as our flag. The message was clear; we were pleading for shelter and protection. Since then, the unceasing work of this artist has joined two main ideas: art in action and a new way of knitting consciousness. We celebrate the presence of Alejandra Mettler’s work in Catholic University art space: it’s a brilliant demonstration of different creative forms that can be achieved through the textile art.
